Single in Paris

Paris from the Eiffel Tower Tailor-make your own travel

Situated on the Seine River and offering a wealth of sights and attractions, the French capital is often referred to as one of the most romantic cities in the world, but it need not only be a travel destination for couples.

For the single traveler, staying in a Paris hostel can be a perfect way to explore and experience the culture of this popular city without breaking the bank.

Must See Sights

Hostels in Paris can be found on the doorstep of many of the great attractions and, whilst deciding where to go and what to see can seem a challenge, there’s no need to bother planning like a maniac because you can easily just wander around the compact center and take in the best of the City of Lights.

For amazing panoramic views of the picturesque architecture, try going all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night. The base of the tower, where hundreds of people often gather, is also a great place to take in the atmosphere of Paris at night without splashing out on admission.

Another great way to spend an evening alone in Paris is to walk, with wine bottle in hand, to the base of the hill of the Sacre Coeur in Montmartre, a favorite haunt of artists and home to the famous Moulin Rouge. Here, you can take in the views and gaze at the stars.

And for daytime jaunts, the infamous, 12th century cathedral Notre Dame de Paris shouldn’t be missed and, even though there are hundreds of museums and galleries in the city, the Louvre is definitely worth a visit. But don’t follow the crowd and just make a mad dash to the Mona Lisa and leave; the museum is so big you can choose a wing at random and get lost in its plethora of treasures for hours.

The Arc de Triomphe, located at the western end of the Champs-Eylsees (or La plus belle avenue du monde as it is known), the city’s most famous and beautiful shopping avenue, is also a classic Parisian sight.

If you’re looking for more budget-minded shopping, though, you can check out one of the local street markets or visit the Le Marais quarter on a Sunday afternoon when its unique shops and boutiques are thriving.

Eating Out

There is no shortage of great places to eat in Paris, from chic cafes to elegant restaurants. The trendy Latin Quarter is a great place to find a meal on a budget with more than a dash of the city’s famous glamour.

Another value for money option, after a walk around the extensive collections, is the restaurant in the Musee d’Orsay, which includes complimentary views of the Seine with lunch! Head to the fifth floor for the superb Impressionist paintings.

But if lunch on your own doesn’t suit, try popping into a local café for a much needed café au lait, pain au chocolat and spot of reading. Travelers on a tight budget will also find superb takeout fare at the numerous charcuteries and boulangeries located around the city center.

You may not be walking hand in hand with that special someone, but being single in Paris can be a great opportunity to do exactly what you want to do, and indulge in everything that takes your fancy.

Whether you’re wandering down a charming street full of cafes and hidden gems or popping into a gallery that isn’t on your list, this fabulous city can make a truly unique and rewarding travel experience for single travelers.
